August 2011 Edition.

August 2011 edition

As the world's economy faces the prospect of a disastrous "double-dip" recession, the question must be asked how such a catastrophic state of affairs came about.

Certainly there are two oft-quoted reasons for this - namely weak and incompetent leadership in the United States and the perseverance with the doomed artificial Euro currency among so many incompatible EU economies - but we believe that there is another equally important factor at play here. This we believe to be the global shift away from Western economic control towards third-world power. Japan was of course the first third-world country to be treated as a global super-power, but Japan's "lost decade" (more accurately two lost decades - and growing) showed that that country was unable to sustain Western norms. Subsequently global economic power then seemed to shift to the short-lived "Asian tigers", and more recently to China and India. In both these countries, however, it has only been those at the very top of society (in the case of China the Communist Party apparatchiks and in India the nouveau riche representing less than 0.01% of the population) who have reaped the benefits from economic growth. Unlike in the capitalist West, where wealth naturally trickles down from one level of society to another, in the new third-world economies wealth never reaches the lower levels of their own societies - let alone benefitting the global economy as a whole.

To the new over-blessed but incompetently-run third world Asian economies must be added another new third-world "power", namely South Africa. In several respects South Africa is different however. Barely two decades ago South Africa was not a third-world nation, but a first-world economic powerhouse. Furthermore South Africa was, and is, blessed with far beyond average natural mineral wealth - particularly gold. With gold now souring on the international markets as it is viewed as the world's safest investment, South Africa's natural gold abundance puts it in a league apart. If any country should be capable of overcoming global recession then surely it is South Africa. As we all know, however, this is not the case. Just as in China and India it is now only a small segment of society which benefits from the country's largesse. In South Africa's case, of course, this means only those on the ANC gravy-train. The vast majority of ordinary Blacks benefit no more from the country's gold wealth than the Whites, Coloureds and Indians do.

During the days of civilised rule we argued that South Africa should use its mineral wealth in the same way as the Arabs used their oil wealth in order to exert global influence, and thereby to counteract threats of international sanctions. Indeed an article on this theme (specifically regarding South Africa's abundance of coal) appeared in "S.A.Patriot" No.11 under the title of "The Mineral Weapon". Alas, however, the NP government of the time took no notice of this argument and the rest, as they say, is history. Regardless of the government in power, however, South Africa's wealth of gold, coal and platinum etc., etc., will still remain in the ground. In the post-ANC South Africa towards which we strive this will therefore still be available for the benefit of ALL the country's people - and we believe for the global economy as a whole.

The Springbok Club joined forces with the Swinton Circle last month in order to stage a meeting which was addressed by Lt.Col. Keith Kiddie. This proved to be a most successful and enjoyable event, with Lt.Col. Kiddie delivering a highly enthralling and masterful speech in which he told something about his army career serving in Northern Ireland, Germany, Iraq (during the 1st Gulf War), East Timor and Afghanistan, which he expanded upon with many most amusing anecdotes! It is probably true to say that this proved to be one of the Springbok Club's most inspiring meetings for a long time, so we would therefore like to thank Lt.Col. Kiddie most sincerely for giving the organisation such an excellent address.

The Northern Ireland Branch of the Springbok Club will be holding an informal gathering during the evening of Friday 26th August at the groundstairs bar of the Europa Hotel, Great Victoria Street, Belfast. All supporters from Ulster, plus anyone else who happens to be in the Province at the time, is given a warm welcome to attend this get-together, which will carry on throughout the evening, commencing at approx. 18.30 hrs. For more information please 'phone: 07711188430.

The Springbok Club will be staging an autumn braai in north London during early September, where there is planned to be some special musical entertainment.

The Springbok Club also anticipates welcoming a special guest speaker in October.

Further details will of course be given in next month's SCN.

The Kent Branch of the Springbok Club will be holding a special event in east Kent during October.

It is also hoped that a get-together to re-establish the Hampshire Branch of the Springbok Club will be staged shortly.

Full details about both these events, plus any further branch activity, will be appearing in future editions of the SCN.

As detailed above, the Swinton Circle joined forces with the Springbok Club to stage a most riveting meeting addressed by Lt.Col. Keith Kiddie last month.

The next Swinton Circle meeting will be held later during August, the details being as follows:-

Date :  Wednesday 31st August 2011

Time :  assemble from 18.00 hrs onwards, meeting to commence at 19.00 hrs.

Venue: THE GREENCOAT BOY (the downstairs cellar bar) 2 Greencoat Place, Westminster, London SW1P 1PJ (nearest tube station: St. James's Park [or 10 minutes walk from Victoria]. Greencoat Place is a continuation of Artillery Row, which is itself a southern turning off Victoria Street.).

Guest Speaker :  Mr. BRIAN DANES

Brian Danes was born in London and has been an active Conservative all his life. Apart from a few early years spent in accountancy, and two years National Service in the RAF, he worked all of his career as an employment agent in the world of accountancy recruitment, specialising in the recruitment of temporary staff at all levels. He joined the Conservative Monday Club in 1969, being admitted at the same interview session as K. Harvey Proctor. During the 1979 General Election he acted as a campaign advisor to Harvey Proctor in the Basildon constituency, specifically on the subject of the sale of council houses. This issue, combined with that of immigration, enabled Proctor to wipe out a Labour majority of over 10,000 and to turn it into a Conservative majority of over 5,000. They then held the seat until 1997. Brian Danes was also an early activist within the Swinton Circle, which he saw could provide a voice for Conservatives living in constituencies without a Conservative MP. After his recruitment partnership split up in 1995 he took early retirement, and has devoted his life since then to political research, particularly the monitoring of the BBC. This meeting will be held in an informal environment, and will enable Brian Danes to explain something about the new "343" grouping which he is helping to form which will provide a more dedicated vehicle for those Conservatives who do not live in constituencies with Conservative MPs, a new initiative which the Swinton Circle has pledged its full support for. There will be plenty of opportunities for questions and answers after Brian Danes's brief outline address, and we hope that the new more informal venue which we are using for this meeting will prove an ideal setting for such an event.

Donations to the Swinton Circle can now be made via PayPal by accessing the organisation's main web-site at: The Swinton Circle also now has a presence on Twitter, on which news about the organisation and policy statements are periodically posted. This can be found on Twitter@SwintonCircle.

We have recently received the following most important message from SanWild :-

"Earlier this year the South African Conservation Services lost a high court application against the lion breeders in South Africa.

"Over the years the local and international media has reported extensively about the terrible practise of breeding lions in South Africa for one purpose only and that is to have them shot by hunters. This disgusting practise was exposed way back in 1997 by the Cooke Report screened in the UK. This practise soon became known as 'canned lion hunting' and locally and internationally there was a huge outcry from animal lovers and conservationists.

"Despite the South African government’s repeated media propaganda claiming that they will stop this practise, there was no real political will to stop the breeding and hunting of large predators. When the ruling was handed down in the high court that lion breeders may continue to breed and hunt captive bred lions for profit, it came as no surprise to the animal welfare and conservation communities. Our government did a shabby job and had no real intention to outlaw this practise.

"In reality it now leaves approximately 6000 captive lions in South Africa’s captive lion breeding and hunting industry to suffer their fate. Many of these animals suffering remain undocumented and hidden away from the public eye on private game farms.

"In the past the suffering of these lions was well documented by a number of journalists, animal welfare charities and animal activists, but as the court ruling becomes 'old news' these lions have been forgotten and presently there is absolutely no-one fighting their cause.

"These lions are the innocent victims forgotten by the animal loving community, animal welfare charities, hunting bodies and the public at large. The South African conservation services have also written them off and in general nobody seems to really give a damn.

"At the SanWild Wildlife Sanctuary 16 lions rescued from illegal breeding and hunting operations way-back in 2003 live their lives in safety. Their large natural habitat enclosures allows for quality of life amongst members of their respective prides and one can call these lions the handful of 'lucky ones' and although these lions will never know freedom again they at least are safe from exploitation and a hunter’s bullets.

"Although the constant struggle to find sufficient donor funding for the lions feeding and veterinary care has been very trying, stressful and demoralising at times; your support, words of encouragement and financial contributions has kept us strong and focused. The SanWild lions are still enjoying their own little place in the sun and we would like to ask that you once again find it in your hearts to make a small contribution towards their upkeep by going to our websites to make your on-line donation now.

"Your past financial support has ensured that sufficient funding was raised to continue their care and have ensured that the lions received regular and good quality food for the last couple of months and for that you have our greatest appreciation.

"The good news is that SanWild has also been approved and registered by the South African revenue service in respect of Section 18A on the income tax exemption act. This means that all donations now made to SanWild by companies or private individuals are fully tax deductible under South Africa tax laws. 10% of your taxable income qualifies for this deduction.

"On-line donations can be made via our website by going to the SPONSOR/DONATE Page and by using the drop down box to find FEED THE SANWILD LIONS."

Kleinfontein is a community of approximately 1000 members of the Afrikaner people. We have established a settlement on property owned, controlled and managed by its members with a view to promote their identity in a safe and economically viable environment. This settlement was established in accordance with certain clauses in the South African constitution which makes provision for a form of territorial self-determination for people who share the same religious, linguistic and cultural values. The development is structured within a non-profit co-operative, is managed by mainly unpaid volunteers, is financed by its own members and consequently receives no financial assistance from the government. In view of the struggle of our people to retain our right to live in a dignified way, and government actions to impoverish our people legally by barring White persons from meaningful access to economic participation, any form of support, especially financial, will be appreciated. More than seventy White squatter camps (mainly Afrikaners) in our vicinity (Pretoria) are waging a battle to survive. The funds will be used for community upliftment programmes such as the upgrading of facilities at our home for the aged who need medical support, and our Christian primary school. Further information can be acquired at our website:

Malcolm Baldock writes as follows :-

"Maybe you can help, we are located in the Ringwood/New Forest area. We are ex-South Africans, and being in our late sixties are shortly down-sizing to a smaller property, and need to dispose of our 8-seat South African Yellow-wood/Imbuia dining room suite. If anyone in your association or network of ex-South Africans supporters is interested then please ask them to make contact. It is more important to us as to where this furniture ends up, over any price we may get for it."

With the London 2012 Olympics/Paralympics now less than a year away 'Olympic Fever' is increasingly gripping the UK. For this reason we've decided to introduce this new regular feature in the SCN.

We know that several supporters have been fortunate in obtaining tickets for some of the chargeable sessions - but there are also many 'free' events which we believe a lot of supporters will be interested in attending. The Springbok Club is therefore planning to organise groups to watch the following events: Cycling Time Trials (Wed. 1st August), Women's Marathon (Sun. 5th August), Men and Women's Walks (Sat. 11th August) and Men's Marathon (Sun. 12th August). If you are interested in joining the Springbok Club's parties for any of these events please let us know.

For some time a FaceBook group appeared entitled "The Truth about Nelson Mandela", which was apparently administered by a certain Graeme Lamprecht, an Afrikaner currently based in Taiwan. This group had been somewhat dormant, but a few weeks ago it sprung into life, and several of our supporters started posting some excellent comments and links to this forum as a result. Unfortunately, however, these were immediately followed by a number of most disgusting and unsubstantiated personal attacks against the contributors, and the only conclusion which could be reached was that the group had been infiltrated by apologists for the ANC regime. Shortly thereafter the genuine contributors were all 'expelled' from this group, and we believe that the entire page was subsequently closed down. All is not lost however, for a new FaceBook group under authentic administration has now been established entitled "The Truth about the ANC's Mandela". We therefore encourage all our supporters to join this new FaceBook group, and to make their own relevant observations accordingly.

[The trouble-makers who wrecked the original group went under the names of Jon Phillips (an entity who had previously made vile attacks against genuine South African patriots on another forum), Peter Henry Eck (who describes himself as a "TRUE satanic warlock" on his FaceBook page - no, we haven't made this up!), Massimiliano Maccio Maccini, Alexandra Costide de Klerk and Giovanni Reho (all of which names have an air of unreality about them). We believe that several - if not all - of these names are false personas established by the ANC regime on FaceBook. Any further information about any of these names would be most appreciated - and of course treated in total confidence.]

Find any South African, even those who have emigrated. We also search Botswana, Namibia and ex-Rhodesia/Zimbabwe.

Details the disasters of Mugabe's Zimbabwe, and illustrates the similarities between Mugabe's rule and that of Mandela/Mbeki in South Africa. It can be ordered on-line at:

ISBN: 978-1-920143-49-7 / paperback / illustrated
Retail price: R250.00, Web-site price: R200.00 + postage

The narrative gives the reader an overview of the history of the White man in southern Africa with detailed emphasis on the Rhodesian story through the life and times of PK van der Byl, one of the major players in a political drama that ended in the accession to power of Robert Mugabe under the auspices of the British government. By his very nature PK was controversial and confrontational. This account is likely to give offence to some because it portrays him as bluntly as he was in real life. Much can be contested about PK van der Byl but few will dispute he was an extremely colourful character with a devilish sense of humour. This memoir covers his life with a full flourish while doing nothing to detract from the seriousness of the international political and military conflict in which he was engaged. The reader will glean new information on a highly controversial subject and emerge with a more sympathetic understanding of what PK van der Byl and his colleagues did and strove for. The human tragedy that has followed the removal from power of Ian Smith and his Rhodesian Front party will almost certainly force the reader to deal with some uncomfortable conclusions, of value to anyone sincere about grappling with the volatile and deeply troubling challenges that confront all Africans today.

No.153 :  Mr. BILLY McKENZIE of Durban.

Billy McKenzie was an expatriate Scotsman who lived in the Morningside area of Durban during the 1980s. He was a keen and dedicated member of the Durban Branch of the Rangers F.C. Supporters Association, and indeed acted as a most efficient Treasurer for the branch during the late 1980s. Where is he now we wonder?

A supporter has recently recommended a YouTube recording featuring Sir Edward Elgar's "Crown of India" suite - a composition specially written for King George V's Delhi Durbar in 1911. We thought that readers might be keen to hear this. It can be accessed at :-

I had read those disgusting allegations against you and it just shows the level people will stoop when they cannot win an argument and have their massive ego dented. Take heart from the words of Christopher Hitchens who said that when people attack you ad hominem, it just proves that they have lost the argument.

Yours etc.,

MM, currently in India.

I just want you to know that you have a number of supporters in Russia. No matter what our leaders say. Some of us will sympathize with you in any situation. Let your community remember of that!

My best wishes to you, British and South African veterans!

Yours etc.,

Boris Grig, Kaliningrad, Russia.

In all the notes that I have ever seen regarding the [RLI] 'Troopie' statue I have never heard anyone ask "who was responsible for making it?" I rather think that either everybody already knows or that nobody really cares.

As it happens I know.

The clay mould was made by Rhodesian Mike Blackman who would be about 66-70 years old now, it was made when he was young. He was living in Johannesburg when I last saw him about 1991.

When he told me that he had made it I was really surprised and went to the Johannesburg Military Museum to see it, as it was on display in the garden there ......... and indeed saw his name cast into the base of the statue.

Yours etc.,

Alexander von Tutschek, Bath, Somerset, U.K.

It was a pleasant evening for the Al Venter talk on Thursday. Did you see the Evening Standard that day? Letter from Ugandan-born British citizen Sam Akaki which called on NATO to be prepared to intervene in sub-Saharan Africa!

Yours etc.,

Mark Taylor, London, U.K.

Most readers will be familiar with the antics of Mr. Arthur Kemp, a seemingly firm supporter of our movement during the 1980s, but who was subsequently revealed as being an "asset" of the South African security services (we were warned, we know .... !) - yet who subsequently turned up in the UK circa. 2000, and almost immediately made his way up to become the de facto 2-i-c in the neo-fascist BNP organisation.

At this time, and throughout the 2000s, Kemp appeared to be an unquestioning supporter of the BNP's leader, somebody called Nick Griffin. Having monitored Kemp's blogspot for some time, however, we were most surprised to see a few months ago that he'd completely turned against this Griffin character, spouting out a quite hysterical tirade of venom against him. Shortly after he published this vindictive spiel, however, his blogspot was suddenly removed in its entirety, and upon last checking it still stated "Under construction. Please check back later." Perhaps not really surprising we believe, for according to our information Kemp voluntarily returned to live in the "new" South Africa towards the end of 2010!

We of course have no connection to nor any contact with Mr. Griffin or his BNP outfit, but if by any chance this edition of the SCN ever reaches his eyes we would warn him to make sure that no fabricated smear featuring fake pornographic photos claiming to be of him appears on the Internet following his bust-up with Mr. Kemp!

[We have also recently been informed of an extremely interesting web-site which features a posting from Mr. Kemp's first wife Karen, in which she exposes the full facts about her ex-husband's most suspicious and sinister history - including some quite dramatic information which even we (who of course have been monitoring Mr. Kemp's trouble-making activities for several years) were not previously aware of. Although the administrator of this rather mysterious web-site states that it is uncertain whether it was Kemp's ex-wife or not who wrote the most revealing exposé of his double-dealings, our information is that it was indeed written by her. This site can be found at :- ]

It was with great shock and sadness that we learnt of the recent death of Adrienne Chapman at the tragically early age of only 53. Adrienne was born and bred in Umtali, her family being close personal friends with the Hon. Ian Douglas Smith. She worked in Umtali for a company selling farm equipment, and was married with two children. Alas her marriage ended in divorce, so decided to leave the by then Zimbabwe and move to the U.K. for the sake of her children. Once settled in the U.K. she became an active member of the Kent Branch of Rhodesians Worldwide, and also worked in the recruitment and employment agency field in Tonbridge, winning many awards for her success and helpfulness in her business. She had recently become engaged again at the time of the tragic stroke which killed her. Our sincere sympathies are of course extended to her fiancé and family.

It was also with great sadness that we learnt of the recent death of Reg Sweet. Reg Sweet served with distinction in the South African Air Force during WWII, being shot down whilst flying over the Mediterranean. He became famous, however, as the acclaimed rugby correspondent for the Durban-published Daily News, subsequently becoming the sports editor for that newspaper. He was also the South African correspondent for Rugby World magazine. A keen 'radio ham', he was also an active and dedicated member of the MOTHs. His wife and two daughters, Pam and Pippa, were also very active in the patriotic movement in Durban. All in all Reg Sweet was the type of great human being that South Africa was constantly able to produce during the days of civilised rule, and his active life story remains an inspiration to us all. Our heartfelt sympathies are extended to Pam and Pippa, and to the rest of his family.

We were recently most surprised to learn of the death of George Hazelden, though at the time of writing we do not know precisely when he died nor the cause of his death. He could only have been in his mid-60s however. George Hazelden became a highly successful businessman and entrepreneur in the Medway Towns at a very young age, founding and running his own flooring company. He was also a very keen and active member of the Conservative Party during this time, the early 1970s, but like so many CP activists of this era he became bitterly disillusioned with the leadership of Edward Heath, and left to join a new political party called the National Front. Through his charisma, initiative and dynamic energy he rapidly turned the Medway Towns Branch of the National Front into one of the most successful branches in the country. He was very close to the then leader of the National Front, John Kingsley Read, and like him was a genuine British patriot. When a neo-fascist faction managed to gain control of the party in 1975, however, he naturally gravitated towards the new genuinely patriotic National Party of the UK led by John Kingsley Read. Inspired by the NPUK's neo-Imperialist policy he decided to emigrate with his family to South Africa in 1976, settling in Somerset West. Here his entrepreneurial skills enabled him to establish his own estate agency business, George Hazelden Properties - but sadly and surprisingly he did not become politically active in any way in South Africa, in spite of the fact that it was apparently political motivation which made him emigrate to the country. Several attempts by former NPUK colleagues who had also settled in southern Africa in order to support the patriotic struggles in the sub-continent to persuade him to offer his undoubted organisational skills and dynamism to such organisations as the Save Rhodesia Campaign and the Conservative Party of SA etc failed however. Even more surprisingly he decided to remain in South Africa even after the ANC gained control. After this dramatic metamorphosis of the country he planned and created a "protected village" estate called Heritage Park in the Somerset West area. Although a very estimable project, it was alas simply tinkering with the symptoms of ANC mis-rule, rather than attacking the cause, and he again refused calls to become more actively involved in the South African struggle. George Hazelden's death is of course both sad and tragic, but alas he will be remembered more for what might have been, rather than for what he actually did. He was blessed with great talents and charisma, but unfortunately turned his back on the cause which had earlier motivated his entire life.
