March 2005 Edition.

SPRINGBOK CYBER NEWSLETTER

March 2005 edition

The forthcoming marriage of HRH the Prince of Wales to Camilla Parker-Bowles (or perhaps we should more correctly refer to her by her maiden name of Camilla Shand) has brought great joy to all supporters of the monarchy throughout the Commonwealth, and indeed around the world.

It is easy to say, as many have done, that it would have been far better had the Prince of Wales married Camilla Shand in the first place, rather than the totally unsuitable woman whom he did marry - but what has been done has been done, and there can be no going back in time. What is important, however, is that the Prince of Wales has now been able to rectify this mistake of the past, and the whole institution of the British Monarchy will become stronger as a result.

It is very sad to note, however, that many Anglicans have been raising objections to this happy event on very spurious grounds, claiming that a re-married divorcee should not be allowed to become the Supreme Governor of the Church of England. Such assertions, however, are pure hypocrisy. The very founder of the Church of England, Henry VIII, was a TWICE divorced man, and both George I and George IV were also divorcees by the time they came to the throne - yet nothing stopped any of these from becoming head of the Church of England!

It should also never be forgotten that the Prince of Wales was clearly the wronged party in his failed marriage. His deeply flawed first wife has been exposed as a serial-adulteress, yet he only resumed his relationship with an "old flame" after it became clear that his original marriage had irretrievably broken down. If there was any blame involved then it must lie with Camilla Shand for breaking her own marriage vows - but can the giving of support and comfort to your future Sovereign in his time of need really be regarded as a sin?

If we have any objection to the planned marriage arrangements then it lies with the titles which Camilla Shand will adopt. As the wife of the Prince of Wales she should clearly be referred to as the Princess of Wales, rather than by the courtesy title of the Duchess of Cornwall. Likewise, when the Prince of Wales eventually succeeds his mother to the throne she should become Queen - and from what we know of her she will be every inch a Queen.

It is just a tragedy that because of their ages the Prince and future Princess of Wales will not be able to have any children through their marriage, and that it will therefore be Spencer blood rather than Shand blood which will eventually flow into the royal bloodline. The Prince of Wales's first wife's overriding concern with homosexual AIDS-victims and third world minions certainly compares very unfavourably with his future wife's main concern for osteo-arthritis suffers and the people of her own country. Furthermore, Prince Harry's recent fancy-dress antics means that he will always be haunted by "Harry the Nazi", and therefore will be totally unacceptable as a future monarch. This therefore only leaves William, who according to rumours is not too keen upon succeeding to the throne in any case. The whole question of the succession after the present Prince of Wales is however a matter which lies well into the future, so can therefore be left until another day.

For now, however, we can only rejoice at the forthcoming nuptials, and wish the Prince of Wales and his future bride every success and happiness for the future. Not only will the British Monarchy be greatly strengthened by this union, but it also gives much hope and encouragement to ordinary people who may have made mistakes during their early life to realise that these errors can still be overcome and rectified during later years.

SPRINGBOK CLUB'S FEBRUARY MEETING

As most readers will know, the Springbok Club encountered enormous problems regarding its February meeting, though these were somehow miraculously overcome through the hard work of a number of members. This meeting was originally to be addressed by Mr. Tony Waller, who had visited New Zealand earlier during the year and was supposed to meet leading officials from two fraternal organisations in that country, "SANZ" (South Africans of New Zealand) and the expatriate Rhodesian movement "Kamina Kawena", and to give a report-back about these contacts at the February meeting. Only a few days before this meeting was due to take place, however, and after all invitations had been circulated, the Executive Committee of the Springbok Club were dumbfounded to learn that Mr. Waller had evidently failed to meet with either of these two New Zealand-based movements, so therefore couldn't give the report-back as planned! It is uncertain where the main blame lies for this failure to fulfil promised rendezvous's (though we believe that Brigitte Theuma of "Kamina Kawena" tried her hardest to make contact with Mr. Waller whilst he was in New Zealand), but the end result was that the Springbok Club was faced with a crisis-and-a-half to find an alternative guest speaker very much at the last minute.

Happily Mr. Brian Danes, who has been monitoring BBC media-bias for a number of years, and who is a keen advocate of the virtues of "talk radio", agreed to "step into the breach" at short notice, and gave a most enlightening and well-received talk of his findings on these subjects. In spite of attempts to notify everyone of the last minute change in speaker and theme there were still alas a number of supporters who turned up to this meeting expecting to hear about the fraternal movements of New Zealand (including one who brought along a large New Zealand flag to display!) who were understandably somewhat disappointed as a result.

Our sincerest thanks must therefore go to Mr. Danes for agreeing to assist the Springbok Club in their hour of crisis at such short notice, and we trust that all those responsible for the failure to fulfil promised rendezvous's now comprehend what great difficulties they caused.

SPRINGBOK CLUB LONDON BRANCH EVENT

The London Branch of the Springbok Club is organising a trip to see the University Boat Race on Sunday 27th March, and the rendezvous arrangements are as follows :-

Rendezvous point : The Railway Tavern, Sheen Lane, East Sheen/Mortlake, London SW14 (nearest railway station: Mortlake)

Rendezvous times : 12.00 noon to 12.30 hrs.

Because of the large number of people expected to be at this event it has been decided to replace the planned braai after the Boat Race with an informal gathering and meal at a nearby hostelry, to which all attendees will be invited.

------------------------------------------------------------------

FUTURE SPRINGBOK CLUB ACTIVITIES

The Springbok Club will be staging a visit to the British Empire and Commonwealth Museum in Bristol on Sunday 10th April, assembling in the main reception area between 12.00 noon and 12.30 hrs. The Museum is situated in the forecourt of Bristol Temple Meads Railway Station, making travel from London (Paddington) very easy. This visit has been organised in conjunction with Museum staff, and a special discount admission charge of £5.00 per head has been arranged. We are also most pleased to be able to announce that a director of the Museum will be meeting the party, and will be conducting them around some of the exhibits of more specific interest. Although no booking is required, it would help to gauge numbers if all those intending to join the visit could e-mail springbok@falklands.org with their details in advance.

On Tuesday 26th April Mr. Philip Benwell MBE, the Chairman of the Australian Monarchist Association, will be addressing a joint meeting to be staged by the Springbok Club and London Swinton Circle at The Crypt, Orange Street Congregational Church, London WC1 (opposite the rear entrance to the National Gallery), commencing at 19.00 hrs. Mr. Benwell, a staunch advocate of solidarity among our kith and kin around the globe, has proved to be a very popular speaker in the past, and we hope and anticipate that this meeting will be the most successful yet.

REPORT FROM THE ZIMBABWE CONSERVATION TASK FORCE

Zimbabwe's wildlife management authority have firm plans to cull our elephants according to the article below :-

"Harare, Zimbabwe, Dec. 29 (UPI) - Zimbabwe's wildlife management authority plans to cull some elephants to control the jumbo population.

"The authority says the problem has caused serious damage to the biodiversity, driving other smaller animal species to extinction, the
Harare Chronicle reported.

"'We have plans to reduce the elephant population as a control mechanism in the wake of the large numbers of the animals and the destruction being caused to the environment,' said authority spokesman Edward Mbewe. He did not say how many animals had been targeted.

"Zimbabwe also heads the Elephant Management Taskforce to address elephant problems within the Southern African Development Community.

"The elephant population in Zimbabwe has grown from 89,000 in 2001 to about 100,000 this year, the second highest in the region after Botswana which has 123,000.

"Other countries seeking to control the elephant population are Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Mozambique and Zambia.

"Animal rights groups oppose the plans to reduce population, saying there has been no proper census to determine the elephant population."

[Article at the following link: http://washingtontimes.com/upi-breaking/20041229-065343-8320r.htm]

The only part of this article that we agree with is the part about animal rights groups opposing the plans to reduce the elephant population because no proper census had been carried out. The double counting of elephants in Zimbabwe and Botswana, thereby inflating elephant numbers, is of serious concern. Also of grave concern is the extrapolations used for determining elephant numbers. Some seem to think that you will find as many elephants away from water sources as you will find close to them, which, clearly, is outrageous thinking. These kinds of extrapolations also inflate elephant numbers. We most certainly do OPPOSE their plans very strongly. We challenge them to explain how they arrived at their figure of 100,000 elephants when we are certain that they have not been counted properly.

We have received numerous e-mails over the past year from tourists asking where all the elephants are because they saw very few. We have had reports about the Warden of Main Camp, Hwange National Park, himself expressing concern about lack of elephant sightings during 2004. This national park houses our biggest elephant population. It is a well known fact that the poachers and illegal hunters in this country are responsible for driving the smaller species to extinction and not the elephants. The bush is riddled with wire snares. Just last week, one of our members in Bumi found 17 snares on one of the islands in Kariba. 13 of them had dead rotting animals lying beside them and had been reset waiting for new victims.

During our last trip to Hwange National Park, in October last year, we drove right through the game park and came across several pans full of water. Most of them were surrounded by lush vegetation that had obviously not been disturbed by anything as large as an elephant and in total, we saw 15 elephant in the game park and this was the hottest, driest month of the year, when elephant sightings are at their peak. Once outside the game park, in the Hwange Estate area, we saw 2 more families of about 15 elephants each.

Governor Orbert Mpofu and members of his family are still in control of parts of the Hwange Estate, despite orders to vacate the area and hand the land over to National Parks. His hunting permits and quotas have been revoked but even the police in the area seem incapable of stopping them from shooting the animals. It seems the so called "law" applies to some and not to others. The police are currently investigating yet another illegally killed elephant on the Hwange Estate.

In conclusion, we appeal to all you concerned people out there to help us to try and stop the authorities from culling our elephants until such time as they can categorically prove we have too many. But how many is too many? How many of the Zimbabwe elephant numbers overlap with those already counted in Botswana? Studies have proven the high intelligence levels and close family bonds of elephants. Can we sit back and tolerate their slaughter? What alternatives have been considered by the parks authority?

If you would like to help us apply some pressure, you can voice your outrage by e-mailing the Minister of Tourism and Natural Resources, Francis Nhema on fnhema@ecoweb.co.zw.

THE ELEPHANTS HAVE NO VOICE. THEY NEED OURS - URGENTLY. PLEASE HELP US FIGHT THIS BATTLE.

NEW ZEALAND FLAG DEBATE

Following a recent sinister campaign to have the design of the New Zealand national flag changed, which was unfortunately given publicity in the "New Zealand News UK" newspaper, the Treasurer of the Springbok Club, Allan Robertson, wrote to this newspaper explaining why the design should not be changed, which they published in their edition of February 16, 2005. We re-print the contents of this profound letter below :-

"With reference to your lead article (New Zealand News UK - January 26), you asked for views from your readers on the campaign by a group of businessmen, actors and sportsmen to have a referendum on abolishing New Zealand's current flag which was adopted in 1902.

"It is anticipated that sufficient signatures (300,000) will be gathered to enable a referendum to be held on this question later this year.

"I would welcome a referendum on many matters in the UK - for example on the restoration of corporal and capital punishment, so I am unlikely to oppose a referendum on the retention of the Southern Cross flag with the Union Flag in the top left-hand corner.

"However I would remind New Zealanders that despite a degree of Asian immigration since the 1980s they couldn't deny their British heritage and forget that New Zealanders fought in two World wars as well as in conflicts in Malaya, Korea and Vietnam under the Southern Cross flag.

"The current flag stands for all the civil and religious liberties which we in the British nations have held dear since they were restored to us after the Glorious Revolution of 1688.

"The abolition of the current flag will mean that in time a very subtle form of tyranny will be fastened on New Zealand as it has been in Canada after it replaced its red ensign with the maple leaf flag in 1965.

"In Canada, the state dispenses rights and no longer sees them as God-given. Secular humanism is rampant in the courts and Canada refuses to act as a member of the Western military alliance. Political correctness is rife and there have been political prisoners in Canada. There seem to be plenty of people in New Zealand who think the Canadian model can be pursued in New Zealand.

"I have shown the picture on the front page of your newspaper to a number of people and asked for their comments on the flag designs, not one of which includes the Union Flag. The overwhelming view was that the designs were ugly, alien and garish!

"One final point - Mississippians voted by a two-to-one margin against ripping up their flag in a state-wide referendum in 2002. The flag's offence was that it contained the Confederate battle flag. It would seem that flags are no longer to be repositories of a nation's past but only of a politically correct future."

"OF RICE AND MEN", by Jimmy Walker

111 pages. Illustrated. With excellent cartoons by Fusilier Norman Lambert, produced whilst in captivity. Soft-back £5.00 (cover price £10.00)

An irreverent, left of centre, look at life as a POW by Jimmy Walker, who was captured by the Japanese following the fall of Singapore in 1942. Jimmy takes us through incarceration at the notorious Changi jail, forced labour on the railroad, and deportation to Japan, where the Japanese exploited the mining skills of the boys from Northumberland. Norman Lambert’s sketches are both amusing and frightening at the same time. Through the bitterness and resentment, and physical trauma of captivity shines the humour and the indomitable spirit of the British soldier. An enjoyable and educational read, with a surprise ending.

S.A.PATRIOT-IN-EXILE

Although we believed that we had secured sufficient financial backing to publish S.A.Patriot-in-Exile again (edition No.36) some months ago, this alas proved to be a "false dawn". Happily, however, it does now appear that sufficient funds will be forthcoming shortly, and as a result the initial stages of production of issue No.36 have now begun.

If you would like to place an advert in this next edition then please let us know as soon as possible. Our Small Ad' rates are still R1.00 or 20p per word (minimum R25.00 or £5.00), and block adverts cost R40.00 or £8.00 per column inch.

Needless to say, however, we are still in need of further financial assistance in order to distribute this issue as soon as it is published, so any further donations for this purpose would still be most appreciated.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW ?

No.76 : Mr. ALLEN McCABE of Johannesburg.

Allen McCabe was the Chairman of the Johannesburg Western Suburbs Ratepayers Federation during the late 1980s, when the organisation was pivotal in the temporarily successful attempts to enforce the Group Areas Act in western Johannesburg, particularly Mayfair. He was also a keen and active member of the BBB movement, a White-rights group which was featured in issue No.30 of S.A.Patriot-in-Exile. It is thought very unlikely that he would have wished to remain in South Africa after the coming to power of the terrorist regime, so we are therefore very keen to learn where in the world he is now living.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

SIMPLE MINDS

Sir,

A couple of months ago we had Mbeki speaking to the European Parliament. He was so incoherent it was embarrassing to behold; constant repetition of extremely simple points, but then I suppose his usual audience is not so bright!

Yours etc.,

Gert Patroon, Brussels, Belgium.

------------------------

MEN BEHAVING BADLY

Sir,

Thank you for your latest Springbok Cyber Newsletter. As always, it was interesting to read. I'm truly sorry about the Wallergate affair.
I couldn't agree with you more about the scumbags we meet these days. What I find totally insulting is that he rode all the way on your good name and then smacked you in the face. How people can live with themselves after behaving in such a fashion beats me. The sooner you get rid of him, the better. We live and learn, don't we. Doesn't matter how far down the road we travel, there's always another kink in the road which surprises us.

Yours etc.,

M.L., Sandton, Transvaal.

------------------------

GET OUT CLAUSE

Sir,

If you are a property owner in South Africa, and have tenants living in it, listen to this :-

I emigrated two years ago to the USA, and could not even give my property away. Eventually, after having Black tenants in my property who wrecked it (what else do you expect!) I found a purchaser, way below the market price. However I cannot get the title transferred until I've paid the tenants outstanding electricity account. The account was in their name, not mine, and not part of the lease agreement either. The electricity department informed me that a law was passed in 2000 that will hold the owner of the property liable for debt incurred by a tenant.

So here we go again, subsidising and feeding the "new" South Africa.

Thank God I'm out of there, because it would have been just a matter of time before something really bad would have happened to us. I've been shot at and carjacked too many times. One can only push your luck so far.

The poor sods left behind say it's not that bad. Wake up and smell the roses, that light at the end of the tunnel is a big black train coming towards you, and it's going to crush you.

Yours etc.,

Paul Weyers, South Carolina, U.S.A.

------------------------

OUT OF AFRICA

Sir,

Crime is very high here. I have been robbed at gunpoint and my two girls held up outside their school in the afternoon. I think that if we knew the true robbery stats we would all leave Africa!

Anyway, I'm trying to stay alive till my kids finish varsity and can leave Africa.

Yours etc.,

Graham Harrison, Johannesburg, Transvaal
